500 Hours Massage Therapy Program

Program Outlines

• 200 hrs Massage therapy technique, theory & practice: 125 hrs of Swedish massage technique and 75 hrs of advanced massage technique. Swedish: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading, tapotement (percussion), compression, vibration, friction, nerve stroke, and Swedish gymnastics: passive & active joint movements, nonspecific stretches, passive & active joint movement, nonspecific stretches, passive & active exercise or any combination • 50 hrs Anatomy: study of structure of human body: The systems to be covered - bones, joints & muscles, the skin, blood & blood vessels, cells, tissues and membranes, the heart, the brain, spinal cord and nerves, the lymphatic system, the digestive system, the respiratory system, the urinary system, the reproductive system, glands & hormones • 25 hrs Physiology: the study of the normal vital processes of the human body including the processes of cells tissues, and organs including the contractibility of muscle tissue; coordination through the nervous system; digestion; circulatory; reproduction; and secretions. • 50 hrs Kinesiology: study of anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of movement of the body • 40 hrs Pathology: scientific study of the nature of disease and its causes, processes, development, and consequences • 20 hrs Hydrotherapy: use of generally accepted methods of external application of water for its mechanical, thermal, or chemical effect. • 45 hrs Massage Therapy Laws & Rules, Business Practices & Professional Ethics: study of standard bookkeeping and accounting practices, office practices and advertising, ethical guidelines for massage therapists, study of rules and law of massage therapy • 20 hrs Health, Hygiene, First Aid, CPR & Universal Precautions: study of recognized methods of sanitation and cleanliness incl. prophylaxis or disease prevention in re: massage therapy & current knowledge of elements of healthy life styles; universal precautions, first aid & CPR • 50 hrs Internship:Required 50 hours hands-on. Students do not have to travel to other location to do the internship.
